Action and Adventure on the High Seas of Information Security

About Me

Apr 04, 2014, Posted in about-me, static, nav

Hello! I'm Matthew J. Harmon. I'm an advocate for cybersecurity, living in beautiful Minneapolis, Minnesota with my magnificent wife Natascha.

I wouldn't be who I am today without the guidance of my many mentors over the years especially my father Craig K. Harmon who helped me do my first hack at the age of 11. While David Ford and Darlene Tester have stayed in my life the longest (you rock!), the kindness and generosity of the many people who have taken me under their wing have shaped the person I am today. To those many people, Thank You and I'm enjoying paying it forward!

Over the years I've held a bunch of fancy titles and certifications. I enjoy building things for the greater good and breaking stuff for fun so I can rebuild it better. I enjoy teaching for the SANS Institute and present on a range of topics at conferences, universities and custom training for private events. Additionally, building the foundation for the yearly FREE, always sold out, Security B-Sides MSP 2014-2016.

I garden, enjoy building things and have a stockpile of partially done books. One day I'll finish my book on applying resilient security control concepts to strategic city gardening with some tower defense analogies tossed in for good measure.

While I take my work incredibly seriously, I don't take myself nearly as seriously as I probably should.
